Daily Activities That You Never Knew Burned Calories!
- 31/08/2020
If you’re feeling guilty about that burger you devoured for dinner, don’t beat yourself up; because daily activities that your body undergoes burn more calories than you think so not the entirety of those guilty pleasures sit in places where they don’t belong. Now if you plan on losing weight any time soon that does not necessarily mean you should completely rule out hitting the gym. Luckily, our bodies work way harder than we think on a daily basis just by doing what we normally do, and that is why when you eat less than you do you’re likely to lose weight because your body is burning calories throughout the day. Here are some of the ways your body burns calories everyday that you did not know about:
Sleeping
Do we burn calories while sleeping? Yes you read that right, you burn calories when you’re resting at night. This is why you’re most likely to experience weight gain when you don’t get enough sleep at night. Your body needs to go into rest mode every night to digest all the food you’ve consumed all day, and just by sleeping your body burns around 46 calories an hour; and if you get 7-9 hours of sleep per night then you actually can burn somewhere between 300-400 calories a night.
Showering
Believe it or not, you burn calories just by taking your morning shower. It only takes standing up along with applying shampoo and shower gel to burn calories! It might surprise you that you actually burn around 60 calories for every 15 minutes you spend in the shower. That means if you absolutely love the hot water running for over 45 minutes, you’re expected to burn approximately 180 calories; but don’t get too excited because that’s only equivalent to an ice-cream sandwich.
Driving
Wake up, shower, leave the house, start driving to work and burn more calories even then. Your body burns calories during an even more regular task like driving and we think it is the position your body is enforced to be in behind the wheel to consume effort and accelerative force, burning around around 60 calories for every half hour. It’s not much, but it is something!
Sitting down
This one’s a bit of a shocker, even to us, but yes you do burn calories when you’re just sitting down at your desk minding your own business, working hard or hardly working - and is considered active sitting. Your body works a bit too hard to sit tight on a chair maintaining a particular posture, burning an average of 100 calories per hour! You’re thought to burn somewhere between 800-900 calories on a regular 9-5 day job, given that you do by default move around every once in a while.
You should not be surprised that your body burns calories during your day without exercise, but that does not necessarily mean you’re losing weight, it merely means that your body is functioning one way or another, getting rid of toxins and burning calories from foods you’ve consumed before. Your body is an engine and it is constantly in work mode exercising, and burning calories throughout the day is your body’s way of maintaining its health.
